Blanche Greenland
Blanche Greenland Larson is a 1923 graduate of Binford High School in North Dakota where she was also salutatorian. She continued her education at the University of North Dakota receiving a B.S. degree in Mathematics and Latin. Mrs. Larson began teaching at Lincoln High School in 1927. She taught Mathematics and Latin to approximately 6,000 students during her more than forty years of service to the community. She created the Latin Club, which became famous for its annual Roman toga banquets.
Being an inspiration to her students to work hard and have fun was an important part of teaching for her. Even after retirement she continued to attend Prowler events. In the community Mrs. Larson’s leadership abilities were evident. She promoted the Heritage Center in Thief River Falls and served as secretary of the Heritage Senior Citizen Center. She received the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Pennington County Award for her dedication to the community. Blanche Greenland Larson was a unique and talented educator. She instilled in her students her love for life by supporting them in their activities and finding fun and creative ways to teach.
Her final Latin lesson for Lincoln High School is wrapped up in the words “Carpe Diem”, a phrase which means “Seize the Day,” a phrase she lived by.
