Chester Dahlen
Chester A. Dahlen is a 1928 graduate of Lincoln High School. He graduated from West Point in 1933 and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant and assigned to the 3rd Infantry Regiment.
At the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Captain Dahlen was commanding Co. “C”, 21st Infantry at Schofield Barracks. During WWII he participated in five campaigns including Pearl Harbor, Hollandia, Leyte, Luzon and Mindanao. He also participated in two campaigns during the Korean War.
With over 36 years of active duty in the U.S. Army, he retired in 1969 as a Major General.
His principal decorations in the United States include Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge Star.
The Major General’s foreign decorations include Legion of Honor, Grade of Chevalier and Croix de Guerre with Bronze Star (French); Order of Military Merit, ULCHI, Order of Service Merit, Third Class (Korea); and the Grand Cross of Military Merit (Spain).
