Daryl Williamson

DR. DARYL P. WILLIAMSON DOCTOR OF RADIOLOGY 2006

Dr. Williamson was born on June 11, 1939 in Thief River Falls, where he grew up, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957.  He went on to attend St. Olaf College for premedical school, and the University of Minnesota for medical school.  He earned his Doctorate of Medicine in 1965.  He was a captain and preventative medical officer in the U.S. Army from 1966-1968, where he served in the medical field, and also commanded an Army public health unit.  He married and had two daughters, Nancy and Cynthia, with his wife, Eloise.

     Dr. Williamson entered the field of radiology in 1973, where he made many important contributions.  He has contributed to the advancement of the Minnesota Radiological Society and the American College of Radiology, organizations that work for the enhancement of radiology, and its help to patients.  For his efforts, Dr. Williamson was awarded the Gold Medal of the Minnesota Radiological Society and was given a Fellowship in the American College of Radiology.  Through these organizations he lobbied Congress on the importance of cost savings from the new imaging procedures in radiology. 

     While he operated his own private practice, Dr. Williamson also managed to teach at the University of Minnesota and the Veteran’s Administration for twenty-four years.  His writings have been published in several medical journals, including Ultrasonic Diagnosis of Placenta Previa; Value of Post Void Scan, The Diagnosis of Microscopic Carcinoma of the Esophagus, Echocardiography and Fatal heart Sounds in the Diagnosis of Fetal Heart Block, and Use of Ultrasound in Focal Hepatic Defects.  He has made many presentations on the subject of radiology.

     In addition to his medical and professional pursuits, Dr. Williamson has been a very involved community member.  He has served on many nonprofit boards and has held many leadership roles in community groups.  He has served for the Superior Hiking Trail and North Country Trail organizations from 1998 to 2004, and has been a leader on his church council and a contributor to the Transfiguration Lutheran Church from 1969 to the present.  He is also involved in his church worship music committee, and has been a part of the National Lutheran Choir from 2001 to the present.
