DON OLSON AT LARGE 1994

Don Olson graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937.  After graduation he moved to California where he worked before joining the US Army and serving in World War II.

Don returned to Thief River Falls in 1946 where he was part owner and sports announcer of Thief River Falls Radio Station KTRF until he retired in 1982.

He was one of the first radio announcers to broadcast high school hockey.  He cared about kids and loved hockey.  He was always on the up side; during the game he always announced the positive and not the negative.

Don was known as the “Voice of High School Hockey” in Minnesota.  He was inducted into the Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame.  March 12, 1992 was declared “Don Olson Day” in Minnesota by Governor Arne Carlson.
