Duane Glass

Duane Glass is 1956 graduate of Lincoln High School where he lettered in both hockey and baseball. Duane played in the record setting 1955 eleven overtime loss to Minneapolis South.  He was also a member of the 1955 State Consolation Baseball team.  However, his biggest accomplishment was revenging that 1955 hockey loss and in 1956 they won the state hockey championship. Duane’s play was a vital part to the Prowler’s success.  He was considered one of best defensemen and was awarded the All-State Tournament Team Award for his play in the state tournament. The 1956 team was so historic that a book titled “River of Champions” was written about the team.

After high school Duane moved to Great Falls, Montana where he played for the Great Falls Americans Hockey team.  Due to his play in Great Falls, he was invited to the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks training camp.

Duane returned to Thief River Falls and joined his father in business at Glass’ Sales Company where they owned and operated a beer distributing company.  Duane and his father won several sales awards and were selected to be the first distributors of Coors Beer in the state.

After 30 years in business Duane sold his business and opened a sports card shop where he enjoyed dealing with cards and the kids that came in.

Duane is married to Carole Goulet, also from Thief River Falls for 55 years.  They have three daughters, Lisa and Eddie Christian, Moorhead, MN, Jennifer Watsick, Duluth, MN, and Stacy and Tom Roberts, Mesa, AZ, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Duane has many fond memories of Thief River Falls but that 1956 state championship team and the journey they had to get there will always rank high on his list.
