Herb Claffy graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. He was a Senior Class President and a member of the Lincoln High School Athletic Scholarship Society. He was on the track, basketball and football teams, serving as captain of the football team in 1944.
Herb was captain of the football team at University of North Dakota in 1950 and was chosen most valuable player in 1948. He served in the US Navy.
Herb served as Head Football Coach at Milaca, Minnesota for 23 years and as Athletic Director for 35 years. He has coached various other sports for many years. The Milaca High School football field was named “Claffy Field” in 1975.
Herb has received the Minneapolis Tribune’s 25 Year Outstanding Coaches Award and was named to the Minnesota State High School Coaches and Minnesota Football Coaches Hall of Fame.
