IRVIN J. WILSON SERVICE TO ATHLETICS 2000

Irvin J. Wilson graduated from Lincoln High School in 1941.  He participated in band and was active in intramurals during his high school years.

Irv committed his lifetime to Thief River Falls Sports.  For 25 years, he coached or managed the American Legion’s baseball program.  His commitment to the program was rewarded when the Thief River Falls baseball diamond at the fairgrounds was renamed the “ Irv Wilson Baseball Field” in his honor in 1989.  As a member of the Prowler Football Chain Gang for 34 consecutive years, his love for Lincoln High School sports was obvious.

Irv was best known for his involvement with Thief River Falls wrestling program.  His oldest son joined Lincoln’s first wrestling team in 1958.  Never missing a single match, Irv was always involved with the team.  He kept detailed records, hosted numerous parties for the team at his home, and also made many arrangements to benefit the team.  The only state tournament Irv ever missed was due to a blizzard, the year his youngest son participated.

Being presented with a “Super Wrestling Fan” award at the 1976 Regional Wrestling Tournament in St. James, MN was a well-deserved honor.  Because of the numerous awards and honors received throughout his lifetime, Irv will be remembered for his heartfelt commitment and dedication.
