Joe Poole

JOE POOLE ATHLETE 1997

Joey is a 1955 graduate of Lincoln High School. He earned fifteen letters while participating in Hockey, Baseball, Cross-Country and Track for the Prowlers. He was known for his hard work ethic and dedication.

Mr. Poole participated in three State Hockey tournaments, highlighted by a State Championship in 1954. He was recognized as the number one player of the 1954 tournament and was selected to the All-State teams in 1954 and 1955.  He continued his hockey career at the University of North Dakota where he played on a WCHA National Tournament champion and a runner-up team. In 1959 Joey captained the National Championship team and was named to the All-Tournament team. He closed out his playing days with the Minneapolis Millers and Denver Mavericks of the International Hockey league.

His athletic abilities were not limited to hockey. While in high school, he played on a State Tournament team in baseball, won the region and ran in the State Cross Country meet twice. Joey loved the game of softball and after High School was selected on five Minnesota All – Tournament teams, an All- North Dakota Fast Pitch Team, and an All- National Tournament Team that played in Providence, Rhode Island.

Having received his teaching degree from the University of North Dakota, Joey taught school and coached hockey for one year at Port Huron, Michigan. Mr. Poole then went to Anoka High School where he taught school and coached hockey from 1964 to his retirement in 1994.
