Larry Peterson
Larry D. Peterson is a 1967 graduate of Lincoln High School, where he was active in basketball, baseball, cross-country, Lincoln Singers and German Club. In the region 8-basketball tournament against Bemidji, he scored 24 points, his personal best.
After graduating from high school, he continued his studies at Moorhead State University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Studies and Degrees in Physical Education in 1971. He received a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education Administration in 1980 from St. Cloud State University.
Mr. Peterson has served in four different Minnesota school districts as a teacher, coach and administrator. He coached varsity boy’s basketball and taught social studies in Roseau from 1971 to 1979. He then moved to Appleton where he taught physical education as well as social studies, and continued to coach basketball. After that, he took the position of high school principal and athletic director at Twin Valley High School until 1989. From there, he continued serving the educational system as a principal in Eden Valley-Watkins until 2002, when he became Superintendent of Schools in the same district. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota State High School League in 2001.
During his time as an administrator, he has founded a mock trial program, a Hugh O’Brien leadership program, a college-in-schools program, and has also been a genuine supporter of the fine arts programs. He was named the Minnesota Arts Principal of the Year at Twin Valley in 1988.
“I don’t know of any school superintendent who is more involved with his school and is as well known as respected in the community that he serves as Larry Peterson,” notes David Stead, Minnesota State High School League Executive Director. Mr. Peterson should be perpetually honored and appreciated for his accomplishments and support in the Minnesota educational system.
