Laurie Kelly
Laurie Bottem Kelly graduated from Lincoln High School in 1974. As a student she was active in Girls Athletic Association, cheerleading, orchestra, and track. While earning a B.S. degree in Physical Education and Health and a minor in Biology at Bemidji State University, Ms. Kelly was nominated all-conference in Field Hockey three years, set the national record in field hockey which still stands, and made three trips to the NAIA National Field Hockey Tournament.
After completing her education, Ms. Kelly turned to the education of others. She has taught Physical Education to grades 7-12 and Biology to grade 10 in Roundup, Montana since 1978. Coaching volleyball, basketball, softball, track, cheerleading, the drill team, and the swim team. She led her teams to six Conference Titles, five District Championships, four State Tournaments, one State Championship, and she received the 1998 Montana Coach of the Year Award giving her the privilege of coaching the Montana All-star game.
In addition to her service to Roundup High School, Ms. Kelly has made considerable contributions to the community of Roundup, the state of Montana, and the nation. Her work educating people about HIV earned her the Worlds Day Recognition Award in 1995, Health Enhancement Master Teacher, and the Health Enhancement and Safety Division’s Recognition Award in 1996.
In 1998 she received the national Milken Educator of the Year Award for her creative method of teaching substance abuse. Taking her teaching skills beyond the classroom, Ms. Kelly is currently in demand nationally as a speaker in the fight against HIV.
