Mark Storhaug

Mark Storhaug graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1976.  Swimming was his sport of choice.  He was a member of the Prowler Swim Team from grades eight through twelve.  In his senior year he won the Section 8 500-yard freestyle.  Storhaug attended the University of North Dakota from 1976 to 1978 where he was a member of the Sioux Swim Team, and became the first UND swimmer to participate in the national competition.  Later, he transferred to Bemidji State University, where he finished his collegiate swimming career.  At Bemidji State in 1979, and again in 1980 he was a NAIA national qualifier in the 1650-yard freestyle.  He also earned All-American honors in 1979.

     Storhaug was the head swim coach at Bemidji High School from 1980-1983.  He spent one year as head girls swim coach in Williston, ND.  In 1984 he accepted a position as the head boys and girls swimming coach at Alexandria, MN.  At Alexandria, his girls’ teams have compiled a record of 144 wins and 45 losses, and 1 tie.  Combined, his teams have won 22-Conference titles, 18-Sectional titles, and 2-Minnesota State Team Championships.  He has coached 29 All-State Athletes and 9-High School All-Americans.  In 1997-98 his boy’s team won the NISCA Class 2 National Dual Meet Championship.  Storhaug was named Minnesota State High School Coaches Association Boys’ Swim Coach of the Year in both 1999 and 2000.  He was the National Federation of State High School Association’s Coach of the Year for the Minnesota in Boys’ Swimming and Diving in 2000.
