Marvin Carlson
Marven “Ninsk” Carlson is a 1946 graduate of Lincoln High School. Carlson was a three-year letter winner in football, track, and basketball where he was also co-captain. He received the Dennis McGinn Trophy, an award given to the outstanding athlete of the graduating class.
After high school, Carlson entered the Navy. Upon returning, he enrolled at Valley City State College where he played football for four years. He lettered all four years and was named All-Conference, Most Valuable Player, and Honorary Football Captain. He also lettered in basketball and was a member of a team that won three Conference Championships. In 1995, Carlson was inducted into the Valley City State University Viking Hall of Fame.
After graduation, Carlson coached in Terry, Montana, for four years and Mahnomen, Minnesota, for one year. In 1958, Carlson accepted a sales position with Houghton-Mufflin Publishing Company and became a District sales manager in Chicago in 1979. He remained in that position until his retirement in 1984.
