Mitch Kezar

MITCH KEZAR PHOTOGRAPHER 2003

Mitch Kezar’s interest in photography began at the age of eight.  He used his first camera to photograph animals on the family farm for 4-H photography projects.  From that early interest, Kezar grew into an artist whose talents eventually earned him two nominations for the Pulitzer Prize and led him to a career that has enabled him to travel around the world.

While attending Lincoln High School, Kezar became a staff photographer for the Thief River Falls Times.  After graduating in 1969, he joined the Air Force, doing photography for officers and working for the local newspaper in Montgomery, Alabama.  He later worked for the Tampa Tribune, beginning as a staff photographer and working his way up to photo editor.  He continued his career in photojournalism as photo editor for the Minneapolis Tribune.  Kezar eventually began his own commercial photography business, Windigo Images.

In search of the perfect image, Kezar has shot in the frigid depths of Lake Superior for National Geographic Magazine, trailed presidential candidates across the country for Time magazine, spent days in sub-zero temperatures photographing snowmobiles, traveled with natives across Africa, and ridden trains across China.

Although Kezar specializes in hunting, fishing, and outdoor images, he also does work for agriculture and industry, providing images used to promote travel, health care products, and farm products. His stock photography website represents 48 freelance photographers. Kezar’s unique web-based business allows him to produce marketing programs targeted for the photographic needs of a variety of companies and institutions.
