Roger Tunberg
Roger Tunberg graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946. He participated in several sports and was basketball co-captain his senior year. After graduation from LHS, he attended St. Olaf College and the University of North Dakota. He joined the United States Air Force in Japan for four years.
In 1954 he joined his father and brother in Tunberg Motors, and for 35 years he and his brother operated the company. He semi-retired in 1988.
He was active in the Thief River Falls Jaycees, and he chaired the local “Aquacade” festival. In 1962 he received the “Distinguished Service Award for Community and Nation” and the “Outstanding Young Leader” awards.
Tunberg has served on the Cancer Board, the Thief River Falls Golf Club board, and the Board of the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association (MADA). He was a member of the Thief River Falls Lions Club and the TRF Chamber of Commerce. Tunberg also received the 1998 Chamber of Commerce “Chairman’s Award.” He helped found the Thief River Falls Education Foundation as well as served as a member.
He served as the director and chairman of First Federal Savings and Loan Association in Thief River Falls for 16 years. He received the award for “Outstanding Dedication in Representing the Dealers in District 1A” as the director on the MADA board.
Roger and his wife, Ardy, are currently enjoying retirement by spending their winters in Florida and their summers in Thief River Falls.
Tunberg has spent most of his life serving on boards and organizations in Thief River Falls. He says, “It’s what you do in a small town to make it better. People have to give back to their community if they want to see it grow and become what they want it to be.”
