Ron Novak

RON NOVAK COMMUNITY MEMBER/COACH 1996

Ron Novak was the long-time Thief River Falls Amateur Hockey Association Youth Hockey Director.  He was recognized statewide for is involvement in youth hockey, both on and off the ice as a program director and as a coach.  “If John Mariucci is remembered as the Grandfather of Hockey in Minnesota, Novak could be canonized in the same fashion locally,” said sports editor Mike Lundgren of the Thief River Falls Times.

Every facet of Thief River Falls youth hockey had Novak’s imprint.  The membership voted on policy and the board of directors implemented those directives.  But it was Ron who most influenced those decisions.  He was a constant presence at the rink, keeping and eye on Tiny Mites, Squirts, Pee-Wees and Bantams—nearly always with his trademark cup of coffee in hand.

Not many Thief River falls families with children went through the community without coming into contact with Mr. Novak, a history teacher at Franklin Middle School.   While at FMS he also coached football and at one time served as athletic director.

If you didn’t bump into Ron at the rink, in the classroom or on the football field, chances are you met him while he was directing and coaching the summer youth baseball program.
