“Huck” Olson graduated from Lincoln High School in 1923. While he was at Lincoln he was active in athletics. He went on to graduate from St. Olaf College in Northfield where he played football.
Huck began sports reporting for the Thief River Falls Times in the 1930’s. He devoted much of his life to his interest in sports and particularly to high school athletics and athletes.
Huck never married and had no other family throughout most of his years as a writer for the Thief River Falls Times. He seemed to consider Lincoln High School athletes as his family. No one will ever know how many items of sports equipment were purchased privately and given to athletes whose families couldn’t afford them.
In recognition of his dedication to and inspiration for young athletes, the TRF Hockey Arena was officially named the “Huck Olson Memorial Center”.
